Explaining the new State Pension: a resource pack for stakeholders

On 6 April the State Pension will change for women born on or after 6 April 1953 and men born on or after 6 April 1951.

As you’re reading this blog it’s likely that you are already aware that this is an important time for the State Pension. But do your employees, colleagues, members or networks know about the changes?

It’s essential that everyone understands what’s happening and feels confident when planning their retirement. But how can stakeholders help? Well, it’s likely that your employees, colleagues, members or networks are looking to you for pension information. With this in mind, we have produced a new State Pension resource pack containing information and materials that can be used straight away or adapted for individual business needs.

The pack highlights the things people really need to know about the new State Pension – if people need more detail the pack will point you in the right direction. To help answer questions and start conversations we’ve provided:

  • an email that introduces the changes and encourages people to know the facts;
  • an article that goes into more detail, including the impact of contracting-out;
  • a list of key points that you can use to write your own articles or give face-to-face updates;
  • posters and graphics that can be printed or used digitally;
  • links to videos (including an animation about contracting-out) on PensionTube, our dedicated YouTube channel.

While developing the pack we sought feedback from a number of stakeholders, including the Federation of Small Businesses who have welcomed the publication of these resources. Mike Cherry, Policy Director said:

“We are pleased that the Department for Work and Pensions is providing this information to help people understand the changes being made to the State Pension.

“It is important that people realise how these changes will affect them so they are able to plan for their financial futures with confidence.”

So please use the resources in the pack and share them with your contacts.

Together we can help people understand what the changes mean for them and give them the information they need to feel confident when planning for their retirement.
